Safe Driver Program

We’ve got you covered in an automobile, truck or bus.

Empire Life pays your full benefit regardless of any other benefits you receive.

While fatal driving statistics have continued to improve over the decades, driving our vehicles remains the single most dangerous activity we perform during the day. Since most people have been in a motor vehicle nearly every day of their life, driving or even riding as a passenger becomes incredibly routine to us. It’s almost silly that so many people are scared to fly, even though driving remains the number one cause of death in most age groups.

Do you ever notice how some people tend to drive over the speed limit, roll through stop signs, follow too closely, or partake in driving distractions such as texting? Ever notice how you do it too?

The Safe Driver Plan we offer is designed to protect you from total disability anytime you’re injured in an accident while driving or riding within the passenger compartment of an Automobile, Truck or Bus anywhere in North America. Benefits are also provided for Hospitalization, Loss of Life and Total Permanent Disability.

Important Features

Safe Driver

As a motorist, you can expect to be involved in an accident once every 10 years, and two out of three motorists will be involved in an injury accident during their life. Even if you’re the best driver in the world, you can’t control other people’s driving. There is a 1 in 20 chance that the crash you have will involve a serious injury. (Transport Canada)

Driving statistics aren’t meant to scare you, but most of us tend to get very complacent about our driving and forget just how dangerous it can be. Over the years, we all become very comfortable driving, but with so many people engaging in distracted driving, drunk driving, and other dangerous behaviors, we all need a wake-up call every now and then.

The Safe Driver Plan we offer is designed to protect you from total disability anytime you’re injured in an accident while driving or riding within the passenger compartment of an automobile, truck, or bus anywhere in North America. Benefits are also provided for hospitalization, loss of life, and total permanent disability.

General FAQs

How is this different from my health or life insurance policy?

Disability insurance ensures you have an ongoing monthly income to support the financial needs of you and your family when you suffer an illness or injury that affects your ability to earn your income.

Why do I need this?

Every North American is reliant on an income to provide themselves necessities like shelter, food, heat, hydro, clothing, etc. Losing your ability to earn an income due to an illness or injury leaves you vulnerable without the appropriate protection. 1 in 3 Canadians lose their ability to work every day. (CLHIA)

How much is a policy?

Costs are determined based on a level that you select and qualify for. Contact us to speak with an Agent about your personal needs to provide you an accurate quote.

Who’s eligible?

We’ve designed our plans to help the self-employed and tradespeople. You’re eligible if you qualify for the plan.

What are the different types of disability insurance?
  • Income replacement: Provides a monthly paycheque.
  • Accident: Protects your income when there is an incident with external forces that causes you a disability.
  • Sickness: Protects your income when an illness is produced over the course of time. This includes repetitive wear and tear as the condition is produced over time rather than from an injury as outlined above.
  • Dismemberment: A lump-sum payout in the case of a dismemberment.
  • Hospitalization: Pays out when you are confined to a hospital.
Does the company recognize chiropractors?

Yes. As long as they are licensed, they can sign your claim form just the same as licensed medical doctors.

When am I protected?

Our Accident plans protect you 24 hours per day, every day, on or off the job. Our Sickness plans protect you whenever you fall ill. Our Safe Drivers Plan protects you whenever you’re in a car, bus, or truck, as a passenger or driver.

How do I make a claim?

Visit your doctor and then call the Accident & Sickness Department at 1-888-392-3857.
